Seim Songkor
Seim Songkor was established in 1974, and are located at Seim, in the Nordhordland area north of Bergen. The choir is a mixed voice choir of around 30 amateur singers, whose aim is to sing a wide range of choral music at the highest possible standard. Seim songkor has gained recognition as a fine vocal ensemble, and gives concerts mostly in the Hordaland area. The choir have a wide repertoire in different genres, incorporating a cappella works from the Renaissance to the present. The choir has performed concerts in collaboration with both amateurs and professional musicians. In 1999/2000 the choir had a wide success with the musical “Dampen”, and did a total of 17 performances. The last 10 performances were as a part of the “Kulturby Bergen 2000”, which was an international cultural festival held in Bergen. The music is available on CD. The choir has good results from national and international choral competitions. In the “Syng for oss” in Bergen the choir won 1st price in both “class A” for mixed choirs and the male voices won the 1st price in the “class B” for mail choirs. This was the first time the male members in the choir attended a competition as an independent choir. In 2001 the choir performed the "jazz musical" Treemonisha by Scott Joplin, in collaboration with the Ophelia Ragtime Orchestra and Morten Gunnar Larsen. In 2005 the choir was invited to do the concert version of the musical at the Oslo Jazz Festival. The music is available on CD. On some occasions the choir has performed with the Bergen Symphonic Orchestra. The latest was June 2005 when the choir was one of 8 choirs that performed the Mahlers 8th symphonie in the Grieg Hall as a part of the "Bergen International Festival 2005. The necessary orchestral strength of over 150 was achieved by augmenting the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra with the Western Norwegian Military Band. |
